: Berry Field
: TonyM October 18, 2008, 05:03:18 PM
While doing some research for a project I am working on, I came across an airfield called Berry Field.  It is presumably in Papua, New Guinea.

On 4 April 1943, Bell P-39K # 42-4347 crashed at Berry Field (APO 929).  The airplane was assigned to the 40th FS/35th FG.  The airplane was cleared from Berry Field for a combat escort mission to Wau and return.

Where was Berry Field?  Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Tony,

Yes it is in new Guinea. Berry airstrip (12 mile drome) was one of 7 or 8 airfields surrounding Port Moresby, on the south coast of New Guinea.

This link to 'Pacificwrecks' website probably has most useful info. you could search also on 12 mile airfield or airstrip or aerodrome etc.
