I just looked up the airfields listed on this site on New Britian in "atlas of WW II" it showes an airfield at Gasmata is this one of the fields list under an other name or an new one?

The references that I have available don't show one there (at Gasmata) but they aren't always complete.  The 5th AF did raid it in May of '43 so I would assume that something was there. 

The report much of the info on the website comes from is dated July 1944 so either the base had been neutralized at that time or it was never anything more than an emergency type of strip for Rabaul.

Gasmata airfield is located at :

6 16' 17'' S
150 19' 55'' E

Airfield is still in use today (link below) and relatively unchanged since WWII as you can guess from the various Japanese wrecks still litering the airfield.
